Dear Partner in Pride
“Educate. Advocate. Celebrate.”; three words to sum up the mission of Pride and Promote of Los Angeles, producers of the most anticipated event of the year and our year-round services within the LGBT communities of color in metro Los Angeles.
July 3-7, 2013, you are invited to become apart of a memorable celebration recognizing 25 years of community, pride and accomplishments achieved amongst our community. We’re excited to bring our signature event, “At the Beach” (ATB) back to the beautiful sands of Dockweiler State Beach for a 2nd year after rave reviews from the community who drove miles to Malibu for 23 years.
Just a few months ago, we were honored by the City of Los Angeles at City Hall during L.A.’s 2nd LGBT Heritage Month (YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af7ozqr2rkE).
Each year over the 4th of July week, our community comes together, young and old, family and friends, neighbors and coworkers to celebrate who we are, no matter what we are.
In 2013, we have big plans to celebrate our silver anniversary with open dialogue, art, film, food and of course the beach party! Over the 5 days of Los Angeles Black Pride weekend, we’ll host a conference series — “Thinking Forward: Changing the Conversation”, featuring intimate workshops on health, safety in our community, education and saving the lives of our youth. We’re expanding the presence of health agencies with specialties in HIV/AIDS, Breast Cancer, Blood Pressure and Sports Medicine. Yes, we produce the largest beach party in the country for our community, but we like to consider it a family affair as this is the one weekend of the year our community comes together in large numbers.
Much of our guests are in the 18-64 age range, 60 % male – 40% female, majority African-American and nearly 35% of other ethnicities.
As a 501(c)3 tax-deductible organization we rely solely on the support of the businesses and organizations our community supports as customers and members. Every dollar of your contributions will go to fund operating costs for the weekend and the remaining funds will help reach a promise by Pride and Promote to open the doors to a community center to house health care agencies, community advocacy organizations, youth and senior programs and activities; a 5 year goal.
In 2013 we were proud to have the CDC sign on as a major partner joining previous sponsors, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, HBO, Weingart Foundation, David Bohnett Foundation, Frontiers Magazine, and Clear Channel.
We have enclosed information on how to become involved or visit our website www.atbla.com. You can also read about us in past issues of Frontiers LA Magazine by visiting the following links http://goo.gl/0Hz7P and in http://goo.gl/etDLH.
